The objective of this project was to create a short film that visually represents a specific word, without the use of dialogue, relying on images, sounds, symbols, and camera techniques. Working with a partner, we brainstormed ideas, storyboarded our scenes, and edited the footage to fit a 60-90 second format.
During brainstorming, my group and I explored multiple ideas for our word. We eventually settled on one concept we were both excited about. This stage was essential as it helped us focus on how to visually represent our word in a clear and engaging way. Below is an image of our brainstorming sheet.
Creating the storyboard was a key part of our pre-production process. It consisted of 15 slides, which allowed us to map out the sequence of our shots. This helped us ensure that every scene would flow smoothly and conveyed the right message. By the time we started filming, we already had a visual blueprint to follow, which made the shoot more efficient and organized.
For editing, I used Adobe Premiere Pro, which gave me the flexibility to experiment with different cuts, transitions, and effects. The editing process was something I really enjoyed. I focused on ensuring that each shot contributed to the overall story, blending them together seamlessly to create a cohesive narrative. Although the editing turned out well, I realized that taking more shots could have given me more options to work with. This would have allowed me to pick the best possible scenes, improving the final outcome.
One of the highlights of this project was the editing. I was satisfied with the way I edited the footage and the story we managed to tell. However, if I were to do this project again, I would prioritize capturing more footage during the shooting phase. More variety in the shots would have given us the flexibility to experiment further and possibly improve the overall flow of the film.
