In our recent sound design lesson, I learned how impactful sound can be in storytelling, adding emotional depth and atmosphere to a scene. We explored the differences between diegetic and non-diegetic sounds and watched videos on how foley sounds are creatively made using everyday objects. This showed me how crucial each sound is in shaping a believable environment.
For the project, we had to create a 1-2 minute sound-based scene using no visuals and only seven words. During brainstorming, we chose the most realistic idea from two options, and our detailed outline helped us organize the necessary sounds effectively. This preparation made it easier to place each sound in order during editing, saving time and ensuring everything flowed smoothly.
Using Adobe Premiere Pro, we layered the sound effects and were pleased with how well our foleys turned out. While most sounds worked well, the metal crash wasn’t as realistic as we wanted, which is something I’d aim to improve in future projects. Overall, this project taught me a lot about the importance of sound in storytelling and how organization helps achieve the best results.
